Two dozen Senators call on Komen to reverse Planned Parenthood decision

The pressure on the Susan G. Komen For The Cure Foundation to reverse its decision to cut funding to Planned Parenthood for breast cancer screenings for poor people — a decision which has caused an uproar among women’s groups and on social media — is about to get significantly more intense. Nearly two dozen Senators are set to enter the fray.

22 Dem Senators have signed on to a toughly worded letter urging Komen to reverse its decision, which Komen has justified by citing a new rule prohibiting it from funding any group under investigation by the government. (This has conferred legitimacy and signficance on the probe into Planned Parenthood that has been launched by anti-abortion GOP Rep. Cliff Stearns of Florida.)

That’s a significant number of Senators for a letter of this nature, and it makes it more likely that this fight will escalate in a huge way, if Republican Senators begin speaking out in defense of the decision, as David Vitter has. More signatories are likely.

Raising the stakes, the letter — which was spearheaded by Senator Frank Lautenberg — explicitly raises the possibility of “thousands” of women losing access to “potentially life-saving screenings because of a politically motivated attack.

EXCLUSIVE: Misha Collins on Castiel’s ‘Supernatural’ Return

On Monday afternoon, ‘Supernatural’ fans finally received word that many had been waiting for with baited breath:Misha Collins is set to return to the cult series for episode 717 and at least two more when the show returns from winter hiatus.

The news was met with such enthusiasm that Collins’ name became a worldwide Twitter trending topic soon after his return was announced.

Reps for the show informed us that they couldn’t give specific details about Collins’ return or which other episodes the actor would be appearing in, so AOL TV went straight to the source, and though Collins admitted that he couldn’t reveal much, he would offer one tantalizing hint about what fans can expect when he makes his long-anticipated return.

“I can confirm that the character of Castiel is returning to ‘Supernatural,’” he told us. “I’m not supposed to talk about any details, but I will tell you this: The character is coming back somewhat changed. I’m not going to tell you everything, but I will tell you that the “new” Castiel no longer wears undergarments.”

Read the rest and leave (hopefully positive!) comments here.

I really hope that by “somewhat changed” he means human/pre-2014!cas. That would make this entire season of bullshit worth it.

Netflix to bring back 'Arrested Development'

The show is expected to return with new episodes in the first half of 2013. The entire cast is expected to return, a person close to the project said. There has also been talk of making an “Arrested Development” movie as well, but so far no definite plan for that has emerged. There is no word yet as to how many episodes Netflix will order.

Girl Scouts of Colorado Released Statement Welcoming Transgender Youth | GLAAD

I am so moved by this:

Yesterday, the Girl Scouts of Colorado spoke out in support of transgender children. Following the story of a child who was denied enrollment in a local Girl Scout troop despite identifying as a girl, the Girl Scouts of Colorado released a statement saying that the associate responsible for that troop was unaware of the organization’s policy. “Girl Scouts is an inclusive organization and we accept all girls in Kindergarten through 12th grade as members,” the statement says. “If a child identifies as a girl and the child’s family presents her as a girl, Girl Scouts of Colorado welcomes her as a Girl Scout.” Girl Scouts of Colorado also asserted that it is reaching out to the family of the excluded child and will be altering its training programs so that all girls are supported.
