I’m like ‘the Tea Party is racist’ and my friend is like ‘Kamau, you can’t call the Tea Party racist. They’re not all racist.’ And I was like, you know what, I don’t need the Tea Party to be 100% racist for me to feel perfectly fine calling them racist. I don’t need 100% racism in the group. It could be way less than 100%. 10% is plenty for me. If the Tea Party is 10% racist I feel comfortable labeling the whole group racist.

Let me explain how that works. If I offer you a shake, a milkshake. I say ‘would you like a milkshake?’ You go “yeah, sure I’d like a milkshake.” I go, ‘okay, here you go, but just so you know it’s 10% shit.’

Oh, now you suddenly you understand how it works. 10% is kinda a lot ain’t it. You go ‘uh oh, that’s too much shit in my shake.

A Tea Partier decided to pick a fight with a foreign president. It didn’t go so well.

Michael D. Higgins (who was elected president of Ireland last year) is fed up with over-the-top Tea Party rhetoric, and he isn’t afraid to show it. Listen to him call out radio host Michael Graham on everything from health care to foreign policy, and thoroughly and factually shut him down. And then call him a “wanker.” Do we really need to say more?

Update: Check out what the Irish Times has to say about our write-up of this impressive smackdown (which is currently going CRAZY viral), complete with full audio of the debate.

In case you missed it.

Our brains are hardwired to fear creativity | io9

"Our findings imply a deep irony. Revealing the existence and nature of a bias against creativity can help explain why people might reject creative ideas and stifle scientific advancements, even in the face of strong intentions to the contrary…"

So basically, science just proved why the Tea Party exists.

"Bachmann says that European immigrants “did not come here for the promise of a federal handout … or a welfare payment.” Instead, they came here for the “limitless opportunity” that the “most magnificent country” in history afforded them. Well, actually, European immigrants did get special federal handouts in the form of white-only citizenship rights: Germans, Greeks, Jews, Irish, Poles and Italians were never barred from the “white only” military, voter rolls, juries or federal jobs, unlike people of color. Keep in mind that citizenship itself was limited to “free white persons.” When more than 90 percent of black people were enslaved in the U.S., the Homestead Act of 1862 gave millions of acres of land to white immigrants. Yep, federal handouts."

Leaning Right: How Conservative Myths Stoke Racial Fear (via robot-heart-politics)

This is why I get so sick of white people claiming their ancestors never benefited from slavery or racism. Pick up a damned history book or three and read, or kindly shut the entire fuck up when we talk about white privilege in America.

The tea party just cost you $322

That’s the latest cost of their incoherent national tantrum — $100 billion in increased financing costs for which America gets nothing in return. That works out to $322 for every man, woman and child in the United States.

So the Tea Party just cost you $322. They just cost my family $1,288.

You don’t get anything in return for that $322, nor does my family get anything in return for that $1,288. It is simply an added cost due to our sharing this country with aggressively stupid, resentful, angry fools who would rather let the whole thing burn than bother to learn even the slightest bit about others or about the world they live in.

Tea Party politics fail WTF

What the fuck?! Tea partiers, what the fee-fie-foe-fuck?! You control less than half of one chamber of congress and yet have somehow convinced everyone they’ve got to slash trillions in spending because of the “deficit crisis”. Many Republicans supported extending the largest contributing policy piece to our deficit, the Bush tax cuts - take the win. What are you still angry about? Yes, government still exists. We still have “traffic lights.” We’re sorry. Not everybody defines freedom as the ability to not pay taxes. Government isn’t perfect, but some people wish it was better, not gone. This whole process has been like, you’re in a bank it’s a negotiation where you’ve got some hostages and after getting everything you wanted you’re still going, “Oh, and one last demand, I still get to kill the hostages, right?” This is the part where they all come after you, and go “You won the debate, what are you going to do now?” and you go, “We’re going to Disneyl- Colonial Williamsburg.”

Is that guy in the back wearing a Captain America shirt? Because that would make him officially the coolest person ever. (also he looks kind of like my ex….who would totally wear a Captain America shirt to a protest)

“I have no problem paying taxes because I’m an adult and that’s part of the deal” is my favorite protest sign ever made.

You know what’s really great about these signs? Legible font choices, proper grammer, and no references to Hitler.

Of all the jaw-on-the-floor videos taken at tea party rallies and protests and such, this is by far the most revolting I’ve seen. Like, stomach-turning, blood pressure rising revolting. Ladies and gentleman, this is the tea party at its worst.

This literally brought me to tears. These people are beyond despicable.

Remember when we celebrated America as a melting pot? What the fuck happened to that? Despicable doesn’t even begin to describe how atrociously these people are acting.
