This may be a campaign about HIV/AIDS awareness, but that’s no excuse. This is blatant misogyny, really sinister stuff that conveys a much more profound message about the female body.

Take another look at it. She’s got a killer smile, but still, you can’t see her eyes. The model is cropped so that she’s essentially headless. What makes her human is gone. What makes her a woman is on display. That’s a very deliberate creative choice.

She is an object to be fucked without a brain or an identity. Worse still, her vagina is a fully indexed destination on a Google map. The visual metaphor is so potent (and porn is so ubiquitous) that this image is more jarring than one in which she shows us her actual pussy.

It’s not about the fact that she’s had sex with Bill Johnson and 19 others. Who gives a fuck? What’s toxic is the idea that they checked into her vagina on Foursquare. It’s saying is that a her private parts aren’t private at all. They’re public. That’s the implicit message in this image, and it’s degrading as hell.

It’s not slut-shaming so much as it’s female-shaming, and it reinforces the age-old cultural narrative that women’s bodies aren’t their own.

This is so appalling. So appalling.

what the fuck

Sometimes, the biggest misogynists are women.

Jesus fucking Christ. I really hope these girls know what they’re condoning, you know? Because this is just fucking ridiculous. This romanticized domestic violence and violence in general. It excuses Chris Brown from being the asshole that it takes him to be to trash Rihanna like he did and, thereby, excuses every abuser reading these tweets. By excusing Chris, you excuse the community. It tells them: This is okay. You will still be accepted if you beat your wife. In fact, women will still want you. In fact, they’ll want you more, because they like that shit. It’s eerily reminiscent of rape jokes that glorify rapists—that tell rapists, “This is okay, and better yet, it’s funny to do that to a woman.” It’s not fucking funny. Do you think any woman who has ever been beaten has gone to the hospital or the therapy that ensues in some cases laughing? Or even smiling?

Take a fucking note, girls: being beaten and having rough sex is not the same thing, and never will be. Look at yourselves and seriously think about this. If you’ve ever thought it’s funny, or excusable, or attractive, or desirable, or masculine, just fucking look at yourselves.

You don’t want to be beaten. You don’t.

THE WORST.

What the fuck, FOX? “5 Feminist Demands She Wants You to Ignore”

just in case you’re wondering, “I can think for myself” is one of these headlining gems.  Idk.  It’s really depressing but also perhaps good to know that this is actually what a lot of people would just nod their heads to and agree with.    But the overall concept here is that to be “a good man” in a heterosexual relationship, you must ignore what someone is asking you/saying to you/consenting to when it comes to their preferences.   Which, no matter what your views are on these topics, is a horrible precedent!

And in truth, sure, some people like having their bill paid for and whatever.  Not my life, not my issue.   But articles like that further work to convince people that I really can’t have a preference- that even stating that I have a preference is just some nefarious denial thing where I will actually be pissed off if I do pay/secretly pleased when they ignore my request to pay my way.

I was also quite bothered that “Don’t Objectify Me!” was on there, because the article seems to make no distinction between objectification and appreciation, and there’s a difference.   “Independent women today want to be valued for their intelligence, their work ethic, their kindness — oh yeah, and their looks. Things have changed, but they haven’t changed that much. Females who claim they aren’t impressed by compliments about their appearance are liars. The beauty and fashion industries would implode if this were true.”

Of course people like compliments but there’s a way to give compliments that isn’t objectifying.  And it’s completely possible to place more emphasis on your respect and adoration for someone’s mind and values rather than their “looks,” because the beauty and fashion industries are fueled to some degree by a lot of physical insecurities that are taught to us, even if these do end up becoming choices we make on our own accord.   I feel like that’s pretty basic and logical but maybe it isn’t??

“While the notion of the sexy feminist isn’t completely false, you need to be aware of those pesky feminist demands that even the most independent of women is expecting you to ignore. Why don’t women just tell you what they want, you ask? Silly rabbit, then they wouldn’t be women!”

BRB, having a rage blackout. Also, the picture they chose to accompany that “article”…what the hell?

Britta’d Lineup of the Day: People are rightly in a tizzy over news the NBC has decided to pull Community from its midseason lineup.

The critically-acclaimed-but-inexplicably-low-rated sitcom will be replaced by new episodes of 30 Rock starting January 12th. 30 Rock’s traditional 9:30 PM slot will be filled by Will Arnett/Christina Appelgate/Maya Rudolph vehicle Up All Night.

Meanwhile, critically-maligned-but-inexplicably-popular sitcom Whitney will move to Wednesdays, where it run in an 8-9 PM “comedy block” with the Laura Prepon-starring Chelsea Handler book adaptation formerly known as Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me Chelsea.

The Hollywood Reporter says it spoke with sources who claim Community will return to NBC “at a date to be determined,” but the New York Times’ Brian Stelter says that while the show has not been formally canceled, “its chances of being renewed next year are painfully low.”
